Configure sudo for Debian

First we need to install sudo. Open a terminal and su to root.

apt-get install sudo

Exit out of root.

exit

Do you know your user?

whoami

gksu gedit /ctc/sudoers

Look for a line like

# User privilege specification
root    ALL=(ALL) ALL

Add another line under root to look like

# User privilege specification
root    ALL=(ALL) ALL

myusername    ALL=(ALL) ALL

Changing your username.

This does allow the user myusername access to sudo for all commands, including to grant themselves permanent root access.
